Did you know that University of Texas has a music department where they teach “Mariachi”? At first it is surprising, then not so much if we think about that 65% of the Hispanic population in the US descend from Mexican immigrants, and that newer generations, Mexican-Americans, are interested in their past and want to learn about their roots.
One would have the preconceived idea that the class would be filled with Latinos, but to many surprise, it its filled prevalent with White-Anglo students.
According to HD News who had a report on tv this week about this topic, at the start it was difficult to find resources for the class, now they have 3 different choices of method books. All this makes music to my ears.
¡Bravo University of Texas!
