"Oye Broder" - Spanglish
Post a Comment | View Comments (5)

Have you ever watched George Lopez at ABC? or sung Livin' la vida loca from Ricky Martin? well both for sure use Spanglish, the mix of English and Spanish. Nowadays it is not only that, a mixture, it's a changing an evolving language.

Hispanic Americans who have been raised in the US and who live in barrios like Spanish Harlem, the Bronx or East Los Angeles just to mention a few, blend English words into everyday Spanish creating new words. Interesting modified words such as "Broder" for brother, "Frizado" for frozen, "Yarda" for backyard, "Jamberger" for Hamburger may horrify the Real Academia Española but this are just some words you can hear sitting down having a cafe cubano in Miami.

If you are interested in a Spanglish dictionary you can get it from Amazon.com, the title: "Official Spanglish Dictionary" by Bill Teck. - Buena Luck!

I find myself speaking in Spanglish too at home and with family and friends. Even in my country of origin we use English words and mixed them up with Spanish.
