Ask Marivi also talked with Edna Rodriguez, one of Mía Mariú’s associates and asked her about her experience being a member of the company.
Q: How did you learn about Mia Mariú and what motivated you to join the company?
A: I love to read about new companies and concepts, especially those that primarily cater to the needs and wants of Latinos. This past June, I was surfing the web and came across an article about one of the first Mia Mariú reps in Florida. I registered as an associate with the company the very next day.
Q: There are other companies, such as Mary Kay and Avon, who target Latinas. How do you think Mia Mariú is different from these companies?
A: Well, the fact that Mia Mariú was specifically designed to meet the needs of Latinas makes it very different from both Mary Kay and Avon. Mia Mariu is obviously a much smaller company with far fewer marketing dollars to spend. The growth and success of the company will need to be organic. That’s why associates are so vital to the company.
Q: As an independent associate, what is the most rewarding thing being part of the company?
A: I must tell you, I am not a big fan of network marketing. But, in this case, I was attracted to the Mia Mariu concept. For me, it’s an opportunity to learn about marketing to Latinas — something I am interested in and would love to learn more about. I also use the products myself, and get a nice discount on my personal purchases. That’s a nice perk these days.
Q: We Latinas are very judgmental. We like to critique every bit of everything that surrounds us. Do you think that it’s important to Latinas to buy a product that is well designed and packaged? Can you mention any customer reaction after having the product in their hands?
A: You are so right! Yes, we Latinas do tend to be very critical of ourselves and of each other. I wish it weren’t so. I’ve shown the products to several people, and most have responded really well to the product line. I think that packaging is VERY important to Latinas. I guess that’s why so many people have commented on the beautiful case that our products come in. I guess some Latinas do tend notice every little detail.
Q: Do you think non-Latinas can use this makeup as well? Can you really claim the skin tones in the Mia Mariu products as uniquely Latina?
A: Of course not. The product line can be used my women of other ethnicities as well. I have to admit that, initially, I was concerned about the potential dangers of stereotypes and generalizations – particularly, in regard to skin tones. I wanted to make sure the company was sensitive to this issue.
After all this great information I am going to log in and buy a “Perfect Magic Canvas” and a Lip Gloss in color “ilusión! – MC
