Ask Marivi: Expert guidance about design for Latin appeal.

Does Latino Appeal "turn-off" non Hispanics?
Post a Comment | View Comments (2)

I do not think Latin Appeal turns-off non-Hispanic buyers. It all depends on the concept you have on how Latin packaging is. Like everything else there exists products with good and bad packaging design. Some of them you will love and some of them you will hate.

However I can't deny that most Latin and Hispanic products have the look of just a "15 minute" packaging design layout, that's probably why some Americans will feel turned-off.

The other day Melissa asked me what did I mean by "15 minutes". I meant "quickly", not good elaborated design.

As a hispanic freelance graphic designer working in the U.S. two years ago to the date, most of my clients are hispanic mid sized business people.
I can tell for sure... most of them had never worked with a graphic designer before. Most of the graphic material they had released to market their products or services were usually provided by the print shop with "no charge for design".
Most of the hispanic enterprises work that way, that is the reason why the graphics look not well elaborated.
It's not that that they don't have the money to spend on design. It is just that it isn't part of their budget.
But when they hire a designer and see the difference, they minds change gradually, and they feel now that their company is in another level...
Sometimes is difficult, but it also feels good to help build good companies for our people.
