Browsing the Packaging section of the Dec. ‘06 Graphic Design USA Magazine I noticed this new Hispanic product: “Comidas Caseras” a line of refrigerated/frozen meals inspired in Hispanic Homestyle Recipes. Its package colors and Hispanic cues caught my attention inmmediately. This product has many of the characteristics I have been talking about for the last 3-4 years. The usage of white (plenty), cleanliness, simplicity, strong usage of bright colors like green, orange, red, yellow; graphic illustration of the sun or flower; Inca or Maya pattern on the background among others.
Comidas Caseras is a new brand from Specialty Food Group, owners of Nathan’s Famous.
As soon as I saw this product it reminded me of other ones from home.
Even though the mayority of Hispanics in the US are young and many of them born and raised here (buying mainstream American products), its worth noting that many times, the packaging design style of Hispanic inspired products comes from the ones you can find down south. This, in an effort to make the product look “authentic”.
