Are we becoming Bilingual?

I don’t know what happened yesterday but the bilingual topic in the US was all over tv in different ways. First, Disney’s channel was playing Mexican singer Paulina Holguin’s Spanish version of “Gotta go my own way” from the movie “High School Musical 2” “Por mi camino iré” video. Then I switched channels and stomped into Jenna Bush’s first Spanish interview in Univisión about her new book “Ana’s story”, then I was watching a report on a Texas border town “El Cenizo’s” issue who have adopted Spanish as the official language. I was like; What is happening?…not to say the least that the New York Times also published an article titled “How Do You Say ‘Got Milk’ en Español?”

I think that English should be the official language in the US and that people who don’t know the language should learn it. It is a way of showing respect to Americans and loving more this country, don’t you think? but I also believe that Spanish is going to become a mainstream language among all the US without becoming official. Just like it is in many parts of the US today.

Paulina is from Spain. Not from Mexico. The Spain Spanish accent is VERY different from that of Latin America, including Mexico. It is very easy to tell them apart. Skin color also?

I don't think there is anything wrong with learning a 2nd language, but why are we being forced to learn spanish? Shouldn't spanish speaking people learn our language? Our kids in school have little or no intrest in learning spanish at school. Many would like to learn a romantic language such as French or Italian. some want the oppurtunity to learn German or Chinese. This oppurtunity is rarley given, due to the growing spanish population. America's language is English, and not spanish. If we went to a spanish speaking country we would be expected to speak spanish, shouldn't we expect the same?
